Kolkata Police issues traffic curbs for PM Modi's Brigade rally tomorrow | See which roads to avoid

Kolkata is bracing for significant traffic disruptions this Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a massive rally at the Brigade Parade Ground. To ensure smooth VVIP movement and manage the expected influx of supporters, the Kolkata Police have announced extensive road regulations across Central and South Kolkata. The restrictions will be particularly stringent starting from 4 am and are expected to remain in place until 8 pm, affecting key arterial roads near the Maidan area.

Commuters should expect major delays or diversions on stretches including the Esplanade ramp, Kidderpore Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Queensway. Additionally, parking has been strictly prohibited in the vicinity of Victoria Memorial, AJC Bose Road (between Hastings and Cathedral Road), and Cathedral Road. Tram services in the central business district may also be temporarily suspended or rerouted depending on the density of the processions heading toward the rally venue.

While goods vehicles will face a general ban within the city limits during the 16-hour window, the police have clarified that essential services will remain unaffected. Vehicles carrying LPG cylinders, oxygen, petroleum products, and perishable items like milk, vegetables, and fish will be exempted from the restrictions. This exemption is crucial given the ongoing energy crisis in the state, ensuring that the movement of cooking gas and medicines continues without hindrance.

The Prime Minister's rally is scheduled to commence at approximately 1 pm, but traffic police personnel will be deployed early in the morning to manage feeder roads. The administration has advised residents to plan their travel in advance and avoid the Red Road and Maidan periphery if possible. Senior officials noted that diversions might be implemented dynamically based on real-time traffic volume to minimize public inconvenience while maintaining the security protocol required for the VVIP visit.
